ChildLine Mangaluru

CHILDLINE 1098 is a national, 24-hour, toll free emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection. Any child or concerned adult can call to CHILDLINE number 1098 to report when they see any child in crisis or difficult circumstances. CHILDLINE project is supported by Ministry of Women and Child Development Govt. of India.

CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) is the nodal agency of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development. CIF is the sole agency/body responsible for establishing the CHILDLINE service in the cities/districts of the country, monitoring of service delivery and finance, training, research and documentation, creating awareness, advocacy as well as resource generation for the service. At present CHILDLINE service are operational in 290cities in India.

CHILD LINE reaches out to the most marginalized children with the aim of providing them rehabilitation and care from unsafe situations. CHILD LINE provides relief and rehabilitation in the space of shelter, medical aid, repatriation, rescue, emotional support and guidance etc. CHILDLINE service at present covers 17 districts    in Karnataka.

Outreach activity is reaching out to public and giving awareness on CHILDLINE 1098 through CHILDLINE handbills, pamphlets etc and asking them to call up to CHILDLINE whenever they find any child in need of care and Protection.

Outreach activity has been conducted in and around Mangalore City by the team members reaching out to more than general public, auto drivers, shop keepers, bus drivers, conductors etc

School Awareness Programs were conducted in schools. The services of CHILDLINE, its functioning were explained. Since the state advocacy is on Child Sexual Abuse the issues pertaining to CSA was also taken up. The safe and unsafe touch, self-protection techniques, POCSO act information were disseminated

Open House program is a CHILDLINE activity were the elected representatives and the officials of different departments are involved in interacting with children and community people. The issues of children as well as local problems are discussed.

In Open house Programs the Corporator of the specific area, officials of District Child Protection Unit, concerned authorities, NGO’s, Youth clubs of the area had participated. In these programs the local people and children also got involved wherein the children issues were discussed and also local issues related to Road, Transport, Anganwadi, water, Garbage problems etc were discussed.

The area Corporator and authorities of different departments responded to the issues pertaining in the related area. CHILDLINE team also intimated the issues in letter to the departments for further follow up.

Child line se Dosthi week: CHILD LINE Se Dosti is a week-long nationwide campaign from the 14th of November to 20th November; this campaign aims at creating friends for CHILDLINE and is envisaged as a warm and inviting initiative to create awareness about 1098. Reaching out to the old and young from all walks of life and bringing together children with their protectors in the form of police officials, allied systems, educational institutions, the youth, working adults and many more, CHILDLINE Se Dosti is not just another campaign but a medium to strengthen the rights of children in India.
